| Dear Gil,
just a note to say what a totally extraordinary experience driving with your Xenon headlamps has been. You were so right, it really is like driving at night with a hundred yards of daylight in front of the car. As we discussed, the worst thing about driving a classic at night is the blinding effect of oncoming traffic on country roads.
This has gone instantly, as with the Xenon lamps on dip, even with your eyes adjusted to those bluish mini-spots that a lot of new cars carry, you can see perfectly after they have passed, and therefore don’t have to drive like an old buffer. I wish the XK150 had had them for “B Road Britain”.
I am relieved that the system actually uses less then normal current; you may not know this, but Yankee cars have a cut-out built into the headlamp switch that throws off the lights if the current demand goes over a factory set limit, and boy, are they ever sensitive. With your relay system - not a problem. I am off for a run in the moonlight, top down. The heater is not great, but I shall at least be able to see where I am going! All the best, and well done,
Robbie Coltrane. |
